Far more than just a bucket list—a beautiful way to find your footing in retirement.

When I finally stepped away from my career a few months ago, the sudden shift from a hectic 9-to-5 to completely open days was honestly a little jarring. Everyone tells you "congratulations," but no one really warns you about the slight identity crisis that hits when you no longer have a job title defining your daily routine. I bought this journal hoping it would help me clear the mental fog, and I was instantly impressed when it arrived. The sage green linen cover looks and feels incredibly premium on my desk, and the heavy ivory paper has a wonderful texture that makes sitting down to write feel like a relaxing, luxurious ritual. What really sets this planner apart is the sheer depth of the writing prompts. Instead of just asking you to list places you want to vacation, the 50+ reflections dig into who you actually want to be in this next phase of life. It got me thinking about my relationships, how to pass down my experiences, and what kinds of passion projects I actually have the energy for now. I especially appreciate the structured 30-day templates at the back. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by too much free time, but those pages helped me break down my vague goals into actual, trackable weekly steps so I could start building a meaningful daily routine.Overall, this is an exceptional, deeply thoughtful tool for anyone navigating the emotional and practical transition out of the workforce. It treats retirement not as an ending, but as a genuine opportunity to evolve, making it an incredibly meaningful gift for a retiring parent, spouse, or colleague. If you are approaching retirement or already in the thick of it and trying to find your new purpose, I cannot recommend this beautiful journal enough.

Great guide to an intentional retirement

We are all working towards the dream of retirement, but actually envisioning what that could look like is often pretty nebulous.I like that this book focuses on what you Want it to look like, rather than what you don’t want. This really is a journal - with journal prompts and then space to write, keeping everything in one place.I find I get tied up in knots, just thinking about what I want my retirement to look like. This book helps calm a long that. Its clean lines and thoughtful layout feels like a competent, friendly guide to some hard questions. And also a guide to the myriad possibilities that await.I like its suggestion to schedule regular times to work in this book - creating a routine of self reflection.I bought this for myself, but can definitely see recommending, or even giving it to friends who are nearing retirement.

Excellent Guide to the Next Chapter After Retirement

This is for a hardcover book, The Anti-Retirement Plan, a Guided Journal and Gift for Retirees. This is a guide for planning one's retirement years with the aim of helping seniors find purpose and gain confidence in their future. The book is 203 pages and is written in English. It is divided into eight sections that cover topics like career, relationships, identity, and change. Throughout the book there are motivational quotes, writing prompts, check-off lists, and questions which are geared to increasing an awareness of how to achieve a life that has greater joy and purpose. What I found very helpful was seeing that each writing prompt has an example to clarify what is being asked. There is plenty of space to write out the answers to all of the prompts and questions. Readers can proceed with the book at their own pace without any pressure to go faster or slower. The book is written and organized to be a tool for exploring, focusing, and building a customized plan for the post-retirement years. It is printed on high quality paper that is an off-white color. Each of the different pens and pencils I used wrote smoothly on the pages. The book's binding lays open and flat to make writing easier. Its hardbound construction gives the book quality and durability. This is not a book for people who look at retirement as a signal of "the end" but it is for those who want to create "the next chapter." I am not ready to retire, however, I am definitely one of the latter so I am finding the book to be an excellent guide that I have already started to work on. When I am ready to retire the information the book helps me gather will guide me to getting more out of my retirement years than I would otherwise have had. I almost did not order this book because I thought it would be more of the same that's already been published so it did not seem like it would have any value for me. Now, I am very happy that I ordered it because it is far different from any of the other retirement books I have read, both in content and layout. Ultimately this book will create or will lead to creating a blueprint for living more authentically in retirement. I truly appreciate the Ant-Retirement Plan and highly recommend it to people who want to work on their next chapter in life, people who want more than, "Is that all there is?" from their later years.

A good way to manage a life transition

A great idea for a book. Retirement is a transition, all right. It's nice to have help to do it.I would have liked to have used this book sooner, but I am glad I found it now.I like that there are writing prompts. They make me think of concepts which I have not considered before. It is nice to spend time processing feelings and ideas pertaining to my change of life. The best part of the book, in my opinion, is the 30-day routine tracking part. Now, I need to make all new schedules and priorities. I like using these pages to create and follow new routines.I recommend this book to newly retired people who want a plan to manage this life transition.

WONDERFUL purchase, recommend to all retirees

If youre retiring, you need this journal!!!!I can’t say enough good things about the anti-retirement plan. It’s completely changed the way that I think about retirement and made me feel like I have a second chance at life, rather than life as I know it being “over.” The content is really empowering and it’s helped me think in specific terms about what I want to do with my time and energy. As I’ve recently learned, there’s a lot!! Thank you so much to the authors for creating a resource that I didn’t know I needed. I would recommend this to anyone who’s retiring and wants to have a great next chapter!!!

Helpful for new retirees

I got this guided journal for a friend of mine who will soon be retiring and since she does yoga, Pilates and gardening, I figure she might also enjoy journaling. The first few months after retiring can sometimes be jarring so I hope this guided journal will help her along the way. The pages feel like excellent quality paper and the book is well made.

Lovely book for a big transition in life

I got this for my recently retired mother, and she absolutely loves it. I really like the approach it takes to retirement. I've always believed that you should retire into something rather than simply retire out of work, and this journal fits really well with that idea. It has some genuinely thought provoking questions that encourage you to think about your own values, priorities, and what you actually want this next stage of life to look like. Retirement is such a major transition, and I think it's easy to focus on leaving work without spending as much time considering what you want to do with all that new freedom. I also like that it is guided without feeling like there is a right or wrong way to answer anything. It gives you a starting point and encourages you to reflect on what is personally meaningful to you. Overall, I think this makes a really nice gift for someone who has recently retired or is getting close to retirement. I'm glad I got it for my mom, and I think it's a great way to start thinking about retirement as the beginning of something new rather than just the end of a career.

A journal that asks the questions you didn't know you needed

What I liked I like this journal because flipping through it felt like someone gently tapping me on the shoulder saying "hey, have you actually thought about this part of your future?" The prompts are thoughtful and I'm using it for advanced planning, not waiting until retirement, because honestly the questions are helpful right now. It's a neat idea and it made me think about things I hadn't considered. Here is why I would pass on it I would pass on it if someone wants blank pages because this is definitely a guided experience. Here is why I would take off stars I would take off stars only if the binding starts to wear down but right now it feels solid and I'm glad I picked it up early.

The only journal you will actually finish

I have a drawer full of journals that are half full and forgot about but this will be the first one I will actually finish. Ech question is short and gets right to thepoint so you don’t have to sit there and stare at a blank page. I do a few questions with my coffee in the morning, then fill it out the day planner to plan my day. Wish I had this right when I started retirement but it still works great for me.

Such a Useful and Helpful Book/Journal

The "Anti-Retirement Plan" Guided Journal (often gifted to recent or prospective retirees) is a structured, prompt-based workbook designed to help individuals transition out of the workforce without losing their sense of purpose, identity, or daily momentum. Rather than focusing on financial portfolios, it focuses on time management, personal fulfillment, and post-career goal setting. Key Features & Design Prompt-Driven Structure: Organized into distinct sections covering routine building, skill development, passion projects, social connections, and health goals. Reflective Layout: Combines open-ended journaling space with guided exercises, bucket-list mapping, and daily or weekly habit trackers. Gift-Ready Presentation: Typically produced with a hard cover or heavy cardstock casing, designed as a physical keepsake rather than a standard softcover notebook. Core Strengths Addresses the "Post-Career Void": Most retirement resources focus strictly on finances. This journal directly targets the mental and emotional shift of leaving a structured 9-to-5, helping prevent boredom, loss of identity, or social isolation. Action-Oriented Mindset: Encourages an active lifestyle ("anti-retirement") rather than passive relaxation, focusing on learning new skills, traveling, volunteering, or starting small passion ventures. Low-Pressure Format: Bite-sized prompts make it easy to write at one's own pace without feeling overwhelming or overly clinical. Trade-offs & Considerations Subjective Appeal: Highly self-directed. For someone who already has strong hobbies, travel plans, and a busy social schedule, many prompts may feel redundant. Requires Active Engagement: Like any guided workbook, its value relies entirely on the user's willingness to sit down and write regularly. Verdict A thoughtful, practical gift for recent retirees—especially those who thrive on structure or express anxiety about how to spend their newly found free time.

Premium Retirement Journal

The Anti-Retirement Plan, Guided Journal sold by the Bedside Business Plan store, was ordered as a gift for a friend. The book itself is beautifully bound with a linen cover. The pages lie quite flat, despite being a bound book and the pages are the premium paper the listing refers to so should not bleed ink through. Both sides of the page are used for writing. There is a built in bookmark which is important since the book is interactive and it will be helpful to jump to the last page filled in.There are 8 sections to cover, Checking In, Career Reflection, Transition, Identity, Needs, Relationships, Purpose, and Your Next 30 Days. The final section is the most structured and best for those who lived their lives by a strict schedule. The book stresses that retirement is the next chapter in life. In the “How to get the most out of this journal” section it suggests working at your own pace, either responding to a prompt a day and sitting with your thoughts or spending a week or two completing the journal fully. The point is to do what works for you.The purpose is to connect with yourself as you define the next phase of your life.My friend is looking forward to retirement next year since it means she won’t have to go to work (she’s on part-time now and still finds it too hard physically) but has no clue what she will do with herself. Her husband is also at retirement age but still working so I’m hoping this will give both of them clarity on how to look at this next stage of life. She is the sort of person who likes to write out her thoughts, so I figure this will be a good fit for her.

I'm already retired is it too late?

I'm now three years into my retirement and bought this journal. I wasn't sure if I missed the window on timing to complete it, but I hadn't. The questions still applied to me and helped me reflect on past, and what my needs are in this next chapter. Very inspiring and glad I found it. It will help any one at any point in their retirement.

Not just a pretty book! Therapist approved 👍

I'd argue that this is good for people who AREN'T about to retire too! The prompts are reflective and useful for even young adults. 👍 As an almost done therapist-in-training, I can confidently say that the questions in this journal are OFTEN in therapy—with people in their early 20' to people in late 50's! Particularly the chapter about identity and needs. But again, ALL of it is good. 💯 Book design is very aesthetic looking with the pastel-ish green and white writing. The fabric cover makes it look even more expensive. Though, the current price of 35$ 🇨🇦 plus tax is probably comparable to what you'd spend on a self-guided self-help book *without* a hard cover (if not, maybe just a tad bit more). Overall I am quite satisfied with this journal :) The sections, setup, and prompts are very thoughtful.

great looking book with lots of useful prompts

This is a very well-made and attractive journal, with a nice quality feel and plenty of space for journaling and focused reflection. The linen cover is especially nice and gives it a luxurious, personal feeling, almost like it's truly a book for your retirement. It would have been a nice touch to have some kind of strap or binding closure like many leather journals have, though, just to give it that extra little feeling of privacy and secrecy especially for something so personal. Because it's not really any anti retirement plan, its YOUR anti retirement plan, so its almost like it could've used the persons name at the front in some sort of label so people dont try to read it. One of the things I really liked is how some of the questions are genuinely compelling and thought-provoking while still leaving you to come to your own conclusions; it almost feels like having a therapist guide you through your own thoughts without telling you what to think. My main criticism is that I wish the 30-day template had continued that approach with more interactive exercises and follow-up challenges rather than relying on the same type of prompt each day. For example, it could have said, "Go back to page 5 and try doing the thing you said you wanted to do," turning your earlier reflections into actual actions. That kind of continuity would have made the journal feel much more like a guided journey of self-discovery rather than simply a collection of prompts. Overall I really liked this book and its idea to really let people reflect on their lives instead of their sudden retirement where they start not doing anything and feel a loss of identity and purpose

Good for the reluctant retiree

My wife has been threatening to retire in the next few years. That's the good news, and I'm looking forward to seeing her be able to relax and enjoy her days doing whatever she wants to do. The bad news is that she doesn't really know how she will fill those days. This is going to be part of her Christmas present this year, and I'm hoping the thoughtful prompts and short exercises will help her feel more comfortable with the concept of eventually stopping (or at least slowing down) her career. Attractive fabric cover with embossed letters make this feel like a high-quality gift. From the little that I've leafed through the book, it looks like the exercises will be helpful for someone in her position, without being overly simplified or condescending. Seems to be well-written.
